There has been a lot of talk concerning the year 2012. Books have been written about it, movies have been made, and websites have sprung up all claiming that something will happen by December 2012. Most of the ideas connected with all of this talk has something to do with the world ending by that time. So, how will the world end in 2012? Here are some of the more popular ideas that are connected with all these theories:
1. The Mayan Long Count Calendar
The Mayans were able to build a highly advanced civilization for their time. They have many achievements that still leave us completely baffled today. One of their most stunning accomplishments was how they were able to study the heavens considering that they had no modern tools to aid them. Using the knowledge that they were able to acquire on the exact knowledge of celestial movements, they were able to create a highly accurate calendar. The Mayan Long Count calendar is set to end by December 2012 and when that happens the world will end. That’s what the believers of the Mayan doomsday prediction claim.
2. Solar Flares
The sun is normally a very violent celestial body that sends out tremendous amounts of energy into space. It is only because it is so far away that we do not feel its full force, but when these flares become strong our technology becomes affected. It has been noticed that these solar activities are increasing lately and indications are pointing out that it will reach its peak by the year 2012. Some have claimed that these solar flares will completely destroy our technology and lead us back into the dark ages.
3. The Particle Accelerator
Scientists have been building the largest laboratory ever created in Europe. It’s a giant particle accelerator that needs 27 km of tunnel under the Swiss countryside. Its aim is to smash atoms together to gain some insight at the origins of the universe, but there are those who feel that experimenting with a giant particle accelerator can create a mini black whole that will suck the whole world in.
4. Super Volcano
Yellowstone National Park sits on top a huge gigantic super volcano. When it erupted hundreds of thousands of years ago it affected the whole planet. There are those who say that this giant volcano can become active again and when it does and it erupts, it will destroy the world as we know it.
5. The End of Times
There are some people who have studied the Bible who claim that the year 2012 is set as the time for the Armageddon, the final battle between good and evil which will mark the end of the world. Various scriptures such as those of the Hindus are also said to have predicted that the world will come to an end by the year 2012.
6. Pole Shift
Another theory on how the world will end is connected with the shifting of the magnetic poles. They say that when that happens a lot of the usual solar radiation that are normally shielded out will pass through earth and decimate life on this planet. This is not as far fetched as it sounds, the poles have allegedly shifted before many millenia ago, but little is understood about how that pole shifting occurred and how it might happen again.
These are just some of the current theories as to how the world will end in 2012. Some sound more reasonable than others, but it could be that even the craziest end of world theories will be the ones that occur. Why not? We’ll likely be unprepared. However and whenever the world ends remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain. The world will end. The question is, will it be in 2012, 2013, our lifetime or not? Stay tuned

Hi, I'm Rick and I've been studying the 2012 Mayan prophecy ever since Y2K came and went. I hope you enjoy my blog and find some useful information here.
And along the way I hope you learn something from the Mayans. Perhaps we can avoid the 21 December 2012 end of times!
