“Is 2012 really going to happen?” I was asked that by my friend the other day. Somehow he thought that I knew something about the “doom” that’s going to happen by 2012 and he wanted to get some reassurance from me.
I wanted to kid him him a little by saying that we can’t do anything much about the year switching over to a new one, but then I saw his face that he was dead serious about it and he really was waiting for my answer.
It reminded me of the article that I read somewhere about children starting to worry about the end of the world and not seeing any point about going through with life since it’s all going to end soon anyway. That should really be a cause of worry. It’s so easy to get people depressed these days. It does not take that much to push them over the edge. So I told my friend that he should not worry about it. The world won’t end by 2012.
I said that in order to cheer him up a bit, but the truth is that I really didn’t know if all the doomsday theories that are going around have any validity to them. So I decided to do some research of my own and in order to help out those who might also be wondering if there is anything to all the doomsday theories that are going around read on:
No Real Threats
With all of the doomsday theories running loose these days, one starts to wonder about the threats that the planet is facing. The truth is that credible scientists everywhere agree that there is no threat lurking out there that can destroy the Earth by 2012.
The Origin
The theory that the end of the World will happen by 2012 started a couple of years ago when some people predicted that Earth will collide with a planet known as Nibiru, when that did not happen on the date that they had predicted it would they moved the date to December 2012 which conveniently enough is also the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar. There is no scientific basis that proves the theory.
Planetary Alignment
Some theorists argue that the end will be brought about by some weird effect of planetary alignment. No planetary alignment is seen for the year 2012 and even if there is there should be no adverse effect on planet earth according to experts.
Nibiru
We have mentioned the planet Nibiru earlier and it deserves another look here. This is actually a planet that plays a significant role in the creation mythology of the Sumerians. Somehow it has been connected with some of the doomsday theories that is common today.
Polar Shift
Another theory connected with the doomsday predictions is that there will be a polar shift. There should be nothing to fear about that. The earth has shifted its magnetic poles a couple of times and scientists see no problem with that for us.
These are just some of the reasons why the world will not end by 2012. The 2012 myths debunked!
