Should We Believe in these 4 2012 End of the World Theory Predictions?

With the year 2012 drawing nearer the fears associated with all the predictions that have been made in connection with it is on the rise. More and more books are coming out about the subject. Movies are being made to heighten people’s anxiety. It does not help that the weather seems to be going bonkers, and natural disasters of unprecedented magnitude are suddenly happening all over the world. I know some people who were so ready to dismiss any talk about the world ending by 2012 as nonsense a couple of years ago, who are not so sure about it today. Somehow their confidence in our science has been eroded by the constant barrage that we are being subjected to that we have got to get ready.

Should we believe the 2012 end of the world theory? Let’s take a look at some of the ideas or theories that are connected with the idea that the world will soon be ending.

1. The Sun

Some theorists are putting forth the idea that changes in the sun will cause flares of a magnitude that have never been seen or felt before to toast our planet or to fry most of our technology. Either way the effect of such colossal flares will be enough to change our world forever.

The truth is that it has been predicted that the next peak season in flares will happen in the near future, but it will be in 2013 not 2012. Consider this little fact, the largest solar flare to have been recorded happened in 2003. The energy that it brought over was tremendous, yet it didn’t do any widespread damage. The bottom-line? Flares happen all the time and it will unlikely be the cause of the destruction of the planet.

2. Reversal of the Magnetic Field

There has been some claims that by the year 2012 the Earth’s magnetic field will reverse and cause the end of the world.

Even if the planet reverses its magnetic field it will not cause any damage. The Earth has done the same thing before, no big deal.

3. Alignment of Jupiter and Saturn Will Affect the Earth

Another favorite end of the world theory that’s circulating around the internet has something to do with the planetary alignment. For some reason people believe that when the planets are all lined up, it means bad news for us.

There is no planetary alignment that is scheduled for the year 2012 and even if there is scientists believe that nothing extraordinary will happen out of such an event. Planetary alignments have happened in the past and we are still here.

4. The Asteroid Threat

This is perhaps the most credible of all 2012 theories. Just the fact that the government has started a program that will keep track of objects that might hit the earth is proof that this threat has to be taken seriously. An unidentified asteroid lurking out there in space while taking a direct collision course towards the earth is a possibility, but the thing is if we are not able to identify it today, there is even a lesser chance that the Mayans or any other ancient civilization could have made such a prediction.
