The Mayan and the I Ching 2012 Predictions

The year 2012 is hailed by many as a time of unprecedented changes. There are many predictions that are connected to it. One of the most significant of those predictions is the one that is tied by a lot of people to the Mayan civilization. The Mayans are one of the most mysterious civilizations that ever existed. They left many monuments that can testify to the stunning heights that they had reached with their achievements. But the most significant of their accomplishments is not connected with the great buildings and statues that they left, instead it has something to do with their celestial observations. They left significant records of their studies of the heaven.

They were also able to devise a very accurate calendar. The so called Mayan long count calendar covers very long stretches of time. Recently scholars were able to decipher some messages from the Mayan calendar. They found out that the calendar is set to end in the year 2012. When the calendar ends, then the world will end as well, according to this belief. This discovery led to the interest in the Mayans and their culture. Soon other discoveries were made with other ancient documents, and those were tied in with the Mayan predictions. The most notable of the other documents that has been connected with the Mayan prediction is the I Ching 2012.

The I Ching is an ancient Chinese document. This book is also known as the Zhouyi, or the book of changes. It contains important texts about philosophy and cosmology and has become an essential piece of Chinese culture. The idea behind the book is centered around the interaction of opposites, and the acceptance of changes that will happen in life. These two philosophies are interconnected, and are tied closely with Chinese culture. But modern scholars have been able to discover a connection between the I Ching and the end of the world.

They were able to see that it also predicted the end of the world by 2012. This discovery was arrived at quite independently from the Mayan doomsday theory. The scholars who were able to make this discovery never mentioned anything regarding the Mayan long count calendar in their book. This only proves that there is really something unusual that is set to happen by the year 2012. If two ancient documents point out to the same year as the end of times, then it really is worth our attention to study them. We could not afford to neglect the message that is being given to us by the ancient Mayans and the ancient Chinese.

There are those who have derided these discoveries. Some of those who have tried to discredit the Mayan, and the I Ching doomsday theories are mainstream scholars of ancient Mayan and Chinese cultures. They have tried to dismiss the discoveries as false. One of the strongest basis for their dismissal of these theories is that those who made them are not really traditional scholars like them. But we must not be too quick in dismissing something that we do not fully understand.
